Québec solidaire (QS) has been insisting for several days that it wants to make gains everywhere in Québec on October 3, but its hopes are also high in Montréal. The left-wing party will spend a good part of its last hours of campaigning in the metropolis this weekend, after a last stop Friday in the riding of Hull, in Gatineau.
In the morning, in a press briefing in the Verdun district of Montreal, Mr. Nadeau-Dubois courted the electorate formerly won over to the Liberal Party.
“Look who was there on housing, who was there on climate, who was there on public transit? Who do you trust to defend the priorities of Montrealers? […] In Quebec solidaire, we do not have a threefold chance of ideas, ”he said in reference to the transformations that the current Liberal leader Dominique Anglade is trying to instil in his party to move away from the previous leader, Philippe Couillard. , and its austerity policies.
A sovereignist on federalist land
Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois is not afraid that his sovereignist beliefs will be a drag on his party as he tries to break into liberal strongholds, where the electorate has not been particularly inclined in recent decades to elect an independence party. .
The project [qu’on a] is for everyone. He opens his arms. It is a welcoming, democratic and inclusive project. […] I meet people every day who tell me ”independence, before, I wasn’t sure, but with you, I may be able to consider it”.

In its financial framework, QS plans to spend nearly half a billion dollars to prepare for Quebec’s independence. The party of Mr. Nadeau-Dubois proposes on this subject to create a constituent assembly, composed of the various actors of Quebec society, which would have the mandate to write a constitution of Quebec. This constitution, which would be that of a sovereign country, would then be submitted to the citizens by referendum.
