(Henderson) Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is currently in the concussion screening protocol, which means his presence is uncertain against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
Garoppolo was injured in the Raiders’ 23-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night.
Head coach Josh McDaniels said Monday he doesn’t know when the injury occurred, but Garoppolo suffered several tackles and had four sacks. His head even bounced against the playing surface during a sequence in the fourth quarter.
Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick received a penalty for roughing the quarterback.
If Garoppolo is unable to play, then the Raiders will opt for veteran Brian Hoyer or rookie Aidan O’Connell.
McDaniels clarified that the discussion on the identity of the starting quarterback has not yet taken place, and added that the decision “will be made in the best interest of the team.”
