(Henderson) Gardner Minshew will be the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, head coach Antonio Pierce said Sunday.
Minshew was battling Aidan O’Connell for the job.
“We considered several factors,” Pierce said, according to the team’s website. “We believe Gardner is the best choice for our goal of having a strong start to the season.”
The Raiders will wrap up their preseason schedule Friday, hosting the 49ers from San Francisco.
Last season, Minshew finished 17the NFL with 3,305 passing yards, with the Indianapolis Colts.
He threw 15 touchdown passes and committed nine interceptions. He also rushed for 100 yards, including three touchdowns.
The Raiders went 8-9 in 2023, winning two more games than they did the previous season.
