(Las Vegas) Steve Hill, executive director of the Las Vegas tourism bureau, said he is optimistic that three major documents will be approved on Dec. 5 to begin construction of a new stadium for Major League Baseball’s Athletics.
“We’re rounding third base and we’re on our way to home plate,” Hill said after the Las Vegas Stadium Authority board meeting Thursday.
The documents are the lease, the development agreement and the non-relocation agreement. The lease agreement was presented on Thursday.
A $1.5 billion, 33,000-seat indoor stadium is planned for the Strip, not far from T-Mobile Arena and Allegiant Stadium.
The lease agreement provides that it will initially last 30 years and could extend to 99 years.
The Raiders’ stadium opened in 2020, four years after the Golden Knights’ home arena. The A’s hope to move into their stadium in time for the 2028 season.
The current season is the A’s last in Oakland.
From 2025 to 2027, they will play in a AAA stadium in the suburbs of Sacramento, with an option for a fourth year.
The A’s will share it with the River Cats, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
The Athletics plan to provide $300 million toward the stadium, while $850 million would come from private funds.
