Larry Thompson reportedly new owner of Edmonton Elks

(Edmonton) A source within the Canadian Football League has revealed that Larry Thompson, the former owner of the Thompson Brothers construction company, will become the owner of the Alberta franchise.

The source requested anonymity because the CFL and the Elks have yet to publicly confirm the sale.

If Thomspon does indeed become the Elks’ owner, then there will be only two CFL franchises left that are still owned by their communities — the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Elks (2-7) are last in the West Division, but have won two straight games.

Last month, the team fired head coach and general manager Chris Jones after starting the season 0-5. The Alberta club went 8-33 under Jones and has been winless on home turf at Commonwealth Stadium in two seasons (2021 and 2022). The Elks have also not made the CFL playoffs since 2019.
