Large seizure: an American intercepted at the border

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) struck hard on May 2, seizing 181 kilograms of cannabis and more than US$602,985 (CA$810,518) in undeclared cash.

Officers made the seizure on the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, near Niagara Falls.

Border Services arrested Andrew Lee Toppenberg, 60, from Tustin, California. Custody of Toppenberg, along with the evidence, has been transferred to the RCMP, LlASFC said.

The news was announced on the CBSA’s Twitter page.

The 60-year-old will be charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing it, importing cannabis and possession of property worth more than $5,000. Knowing that any or all of them were obtained from the commission of a crime in the United States.

According to CBSA statistics, the federal agency made 52,349 seizures in 2021-2022.
