A previous toll reported six dead and fifteen injured.

Torrents of water carrying stones and mud invaded an avenue in the Ecuadorian capital, washing away cars and flooding houses and streets, according to images published by Civil Protection.

Heavy rains that have been battering Ecuador since October have already hit 22 of the country’s 24 provinces, killing at least 18 people and injuring 24, according to the National Risk Management Service.
