Landslide in Saguenay | An insurance problem postpones stabilization work

(Saguenay) Stabilization work on the site of the landslide that occurred in mid-June in the borough of La Baie, in Saguenay, cannot begin these days as hoped, because the contractor who must perform is still looking for a specialist insurer who can cover this type of work.

The City of Saguenay claims to be ready to proceed, as well as the contractor and the Ministry of Transport. The City reiterates its commitment to complete the stabilization work as soon as possible.

In order to resolve the impasse, the Saguenay Supply Division assists the entrepreneur in his search for an insurer. The City has also extended the local state of emergency until July 30.

Residents of about 60 residences affected by the landslide are still unable to return to their homes.

Shortly after the events, the authorities indicated that five houses could not be saved and that they would therefore have to be demolished. For its part, the Quebec government has set the maximum compensation at $375,000 to rebuild each of the residences swept away by the landslide.

In the meantime, the City reminds that the population can still contribute to an aid fund for disaster victims. In the event that the donations are not redistributed in full, the remaining amounts will be kept in a reserve fund to help future victims of the City of Saguenay.
