The duel between Lando Norris (McLaren) and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) continues on the front row. The Briton, hunting for points to overtake the Dutchman, leader of the drivers’ standings, set the best time in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix (1’30”002), Saturday 21 September. Lando Norris will be on pole position on Sunday (start at 2pm) for the sixth time this season. However, he has never yet managed to convert these poles into victories. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, winner of the last GP in Azerbaijan, will start in 5th place, behind the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton (3rd) and George Russell (4th).

Ferrari could be frustrated by this qualifying session. Carlos Sainz, who went off track during Q3, will start in 10th place. Complaining about the temperature of the tires, Charles Leclerc finished 9th. Also disappointing for Sergio Pérez, 13th with his Red Bull. The Mexican, in difficulty this season, is unable to capitalize on his fine second place in Baku.

The French team Alpine are again not celebrating. Pierre Gasly failed to get out of the first qualifying session and will start on the penultimate row. Esteban Ocon, 15th, will also have to fight to hope to score points in Singapore.
