Land Rover Defender 30th anniversary: ​​a return to simplicity

It will soon be 30 years since the Land Rover Defender made its debut on the North American market and, to mark the occasion, the company has created a ’30th Anniversary’ edition that pays homage to the iconic 1993 Defender 110, very prized by collectors today.

We prefer to warn you right away, however: production will be limited to 500 copies, all destined for the United States.

Nevertheless, it is interesting to see this vehicle which emphasizes simplicity and the classic side, in particular with its 18-inch steel wheels painted in white, the equipment of the entry-level S version and the fact that it’s only available with the base 296-hp four-cylinder engine.

In addition, only one body color is offered, Fuji White, and a commemorative badge is affixed to the rear. The interior features black leatherette seats with a white brushed-finish structural bar in front of the front occupants.

This 30th Anniversary Defender also has a series of accessories inspired by the 1993 original. These include the roof rack, classic mud flaps, fender flares, side steps and retractable ladder.

On the other hand, Land Rover has thought of today’s buyers who are looking for modern conveniences, such as premium LED headlights, air suspension, tri-zone climate control and an air purification system. air in the vehicle, not to mention various option groups like the Off-Road and Cold Weather Packages.

It’s already possible to order a 2023 Land Rover Defender in Canada. Pricing starts at $66,100 for the short-wheelbase 90 model (up $2,000 from 2022) and $67,000 for the 110 long-wheelbase (up $200).

The former adds a $100,000 X trim that comes with a host of additional equipment, including air suspension, electronic active differential, configurable Terrain Response 2, off-road cruise control and tan Windsor leather seats. and black. The engine that powers it is the 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder producing 395 horsepower.

The 518-hp V8-powered Defender 110 wins a Carpathian Edition that tops out at $135,900. Exclusive 22-inch wheels, a contrasting black tailgate, the Graphite exterior package and a refrigerator compartment in the front center console are on the menu.
