Aston Martin Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll apologized to the FIA and received a written warning on Friday for his behavior at the Qatar Grand Prix, where he pushed a member of his team after being quickly excluded from qualifying.
The Quebecer was eliminated in the first qualifying session last Friday, before violently throwing his steering wheel to the ground when leaving his car. He then pushed his fitness trainer, Henry How, as he left the garage.
In a television interview, he explained his performance with very short answers, punctuated by profanities.
The FIA said Friday that its disciplinary chief had received an apology from Stroll about “his behavior” in Qatar and that the son of the team’s owner, billionaire Lawrence Stroll, had received a written warning, reminding him of “his responsibilities as a competitor subject to the FIA Code of Ethics and other rules of the organization”.
The FIA added that it “maintains its zero tolerance policy towards misconduct and any actions that could lead to physical harassment”.
Stroll finished 11e of Sunday’s race. He occupies the 10e rank in the driver rankings. His teammate Fernando Alonso is fourth.
