A nonagenarian died after being hit by the driver of an SUV as she crossed Route 131 in Saint-Jean-de-Matha, in Lanaudière.
The tragedy happened around 5 p.m. The 92-year-old woman was then crossing Route 131 alone, at the height of the intersection with Chemin de la Rivière-Noire Sud.
Transported to a local hospital in critical condition, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the scene.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has delegated a patrol officer specializing in collision investigation to reconstruct the circumstances of the fatal accident which occurred in an area where the speed limit is set at 80 km/h. Nothing suggests a criminal act, said the SQ.
Three people were on board the SUV and none of them were injured in the crash.
After being closed for a few hours, Route 131 reopened around 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
