Lanaudière | Two people die in head-on collisions

A man and a woman lost their lives in two separate – but strikingly similar – collisions on Monday in Lanaudière.

The first accident occurred around 7:15 a.m. Monday morning on Route 347 in Saint-Norbert, a municipality located east of Joliette. This road lined with agricultural industries crosses fields and the heart of the city.

For a reason still unknown, the driver of the vehicle deviated from his lane to come face to face with a heavy goods vehicle coming in the opposite direction, explains Marythé Bolduc, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). The driver, a man in his 50s, was not wearing a seat belt. He was ejected from the vehicle and his death was pronounced at the scene by emergency services.

The driver of the truck was not injured, but was taken to hospital as a preventive measure. A patrol officer specializing in collision investigations from the SQ was dispatched to the scene Monday morning. Route 347 was still closed at Rang Sud at the end of the day Monday for investigation purposes.

Similar scene in Saint-Lin – Laurentides

A second accident occurred in Lanaudière on Monday afternoon, this time in Saint-Lin – Laurentides, a municipality located west of Joliette.

A 65-year-old driver veered out of her lane while traveling on Route 335 and collided head-on with a heavy-duty truck. Difficult road conditions, including blowing snow, could explain the maneuver, maintains Marythé Bolduc.

The driver was ejected from her vehicle by the force of the impact. She was taken to hospital in critical condition. His death was confirmed on Monday evening.

The accident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Route 335 was closed to traffic and, as in Saint-Norbert, a patrol officer specializing in collision investigation was dispatched to better understand the circumstances of the tragedy.
