A French family’s visit to Quebec turned into tragedy on Monday when a 13-year-old boy lost his life in a dog sledding accident in Saint-Michel-des-Saints, in Lanaudière.
According to information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the child was riding the dog sled when the driver lost control of it.
The boy then allegedly hit a tree. He was taken to hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries. He and his family were French tourists, details Frédéric Deshaies, spokesperson for the SQ.
Emergency services were called shortly before noon to the scene, on rue Aulnaies in Saint-Michel-des-Saints, in northern Lanaudière.
An investigation has been opened to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy.
