(Sainte-Mélanie) An accident involving a vehicle and a tow truck occurred Monday morning in Sainte-Mélanie, in the Lanaudière region. The people in the car were seriously injured, including the driver who is in critical condition.
The collision took place around 11 a.m. on Route 348 at the corner of rang Kildare.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the driver of the car would have made his mandatory stop on rang Kildare. “But it seems that the car entered the road without ensuring the total absence of danger to avoid an impact,” said SQ Sergeant Éloïse Cossette.
The truck adapted for towing vehicles traveling on Highway 348 could not avoid the collision. The driver of the tow truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
Inside the car, lifeguards were needed to extricate the driver and his female passenger, both in their twenties. The woman was seriously injured and taken to hospital, but there is no fear for her life.
When help arrived, the man behind the wheel was unconscious. He was also taken to a hospital and his condition is considered critical.
An SQ collision investigator was dispatched to the scene to further document the circumstances of the accident. Route 348 is currently closed in both directions.
