The car was found in a ditch near a wooded area along Route 343 in Joliette. Difficult to see from the road, the damaged vehicle was spotted by a passerby who reported it to the police of the MRC de Joliette around 10:20 a.m. Sunday. The accident would have occurred in the previous hours.
A single man was on board. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to initial information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the driver missed the curve and lost control of his vehicle. There is nothing to suggest that criminal elements, for example impaired driving, are involved, says Marythée Bolduc, spokesperson for the SQ.
A police officer specializing in collision investigation was dispatched to the scene and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the accident.
