Died in a very violent car accident under the Pont de l’Alma in 1997, Lady Diana was a woman apart: independent and free, the thirty-year-old had left the monarchy five years before her death, separating with a crash from a prince Charles who had never loved her, preferring her childhood sweetheart, Camilla Parker-Bowles (with whom he is now married).
Angry with the royal family, who reproached her for venting too much in the media, the young woman had nevertheless refused to leave the family apartment located in Kensington Palace according to Andrew Morton (biographer recently author of Diana, in pursuit of love). She had resisted pressure from Prince Philip to move to one of the smaller studios. The young woman had then brought one of his decorating friends, Dudley Poplak, to remove all the objects reminding her too much of her ex-in-laws and her ex-husband, and completely redesign the interior of the apartment.
