After the prison and the run, Lacrim has now moved to Dubai where he owns a barber shop. Far from his French legal troubles and his sometimes dark past, the 36-year-old rapper spoke to journalists from the Parisian about his new life in the Emirates. The performer of the title Oh mother – which returns with a fourth album called Persona non grata – confides having found a little peace in this new country of exile. “Because of my notoriety, I could no longer live in Paris, nor in the Netherlands where I spent a year and a half“, he indicates.
Relieved to be done with prison, Lacrim (real name Karim Zenoud) reveals however that his imprisonment made him more “mature“. Born in the XXth arrondissement of Paris, the interpreter of the title Bonnie and Clyde had a difficult youth and quickly became known to the courts for robberies until 2001, the date of his first imprisonment. Sincere, Lacrim looks back on this painful period of his life and reveals how he is now proud of his career. “For me, as for my father, it was screwed up. Death or prison. For me, it’s a challenge to fight against life, to succeed. I never had anyone to help me. (…) The prison made me a mature person and now I am their pride. Whatever happens, I remain a model of success.“admits the rapper.
Dad of two children (11 years old and 6 years old), Lacrim also reveals, half-heartedly, his new upcoming projects, especially in the cinema. “I will probably accept a role that has just been offered to me“, he says, without saying more about this mysterious film. In addition, in parallel with his European rap tour project with headliners from each country, Lacrim has another dream: to create a restaurant in Dubai A desire that will perhaps soon become reality?
