Lack of transparency | Judge dismisses Rudy Giuliani’s bankruptcy case

(New York) A judge on Friday dismissed Rudy Giuliani’s bankruptcy filing, ruling that the former New York mayor flouted the process due to a lack of transparency.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane made the decision official after saying Wednesday he was inclined to do so. Lawyers for Giuliani and his two largest creditors — two former election workers he defamed — agreed that dismissing the case was the best course of action.

The dismissal ends Giuliani’s bankruptcy protection, but it does not absolve him of his debts. His creditors can now pursue other legal remedies to recover at least some of the money they are owed, such as obtaining a court order to seize his apartments and other assets.

The dismissal of the case will also allow the former mayor to appeal the defamation case, which stems from his efforts to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss.
