Lack of funding | Carrier Lynx Air to cease operations

The days of Lynx Air, one of the Canadian low-cost carriers present in Montreal and Quebec, are numbered, we have learned The Press. Unable to finance itself, the carrier plans to cease its activities this Sunday, after having completed its flights.

“Unfortunately, we have not been able to obtain adequate financing and have requested protection from our creditors,” the company wrote in an internal memo sent to its employees on Thursday.

Lynx and Flair Airlines — another low-cost carrier — had held talks about a potential merger. Obviously, these discussions will not materialize.

The Lynx fleet consists of 9 Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. Based in Calgary, the company counted Indigo Partners LLC — the firm of businessman Bill Franke — among its investors. Its maiden flight took place no later than April 2022.

After the departure of its president and CEO Merren McArthur last September, Lynx has still not found a successor.

The surprise resignation of Mme McArthur was announced in June 2023, two years after her arrival. The manager had agreed to stay on for a few additional months to “select and appoint a new CEO,” Lynx explained at the time.
