The 64-year-old woman whose lifeless body was found Monday evening in a home in the Lachine borough was the victim of murder, Montreal police confirmed Tuesday.
So it is officially the 21st.e homicide to occur in the metropolis since the beginning of 2024, confirmed officer Sabrina Gauthier, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department (SPVM).
Nevertheless, the investigation will continue for the time being. Investigators from the Montreal police force were still on the scene of the macabre discovery on Tuesday. It had first occurred around 7:45 p.m. Monday evening in an apartment on 32e avenue, not far from Victoria Street.
Forensic identification technicians were also dispatched to the scene, as were specialists from the Forensic Sciences and Legal Medicine Laboratory (LSJML), who are taking blood samples, among other things.
It was a relative of the victim who initially contacted emergency services. No suspects have yet been apprehended by law enforcement in this case.
At this time, it is not known what elements led the police to conclude that it was a murder. “We will not reveal any specific elements so as not to harm the investigation, which has only just begun,” said Officer Gauthier on this subject.
