Lachine | Girl in critical condition after crash

A 10-year-old girl was reportedly hit on Wednesday afternoon by the driver of a vehicle in the borough of Lachine, in Montreal. She would be in critical condition.

The tragedy occurred around 3:10 p.m. on rue Saint-Antoine opposite the Saul-Bellow library. This busy street has two-way traffic. Pedestrian corridors are set up at the intersection of rue Saint-Antoine and 32e avenue and a few meters further on at the corner of rue Saint-Antoine and place Accueil.

The girl would have tried to cross quickly between the two intersections, where there was no pedestrian crossing, said the spokesperson for the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Sabrina Gauthier. The driver of the vehicle traveling at low speed eastbound on Saint-Antoine would have been surprised by the arrival of the child and would have struck him.

When the police arrived, the girl was unconscious and was transferred to a hospital, where her condition is considered critical. For his part, the driver, a 55-year-old man, is in a state of shock and has not been transferred to hospital. No charges will be filed.

A perimeter was erected for a few hours late Wednesday afternoon so that investigators from the collision investigation section could try to shed light on the circumstances of the event.
