Lac-Saint-Jean: at least one person missing after the collapse of a road

At least one person is wanted in Saint-Henri-de-Taillon in Lac-Saint-Jean as two cars were swept away this morning by the waters when a culvert collapsed due to the heavy rains of the last few hours.

Rue Ulysse, a gravel road between Saint-Henri-de-Taillon and Ascension-de-Notre-Seigneur, was cut in half around 6 a.m. this morning.

The exact circumstances are still unknown, but two cars traveling on the road fell into the crevasse caused by a culvert collapse.

The swollen waters of the small stream were powerful enough to carry the first vehicle over 600 m.

“The vehicle was found around 7:15 a.m. The cabin was filled with water. The search continues, ”explained Hugues Beaulieu, of the Sûreté du Québec, who did not yet have the details if one or more occupants were on board or if they had gotten out of the car.

“The driver of the other vehicle who was alone on board managed to get out. He was only injured in one wrist,” added Mr. Beaulieu.
