Lac-Saint-Charles: a one-year-old baby dies after cardiorespiratory arrest

A one-year-old baby died in a family daycare on Wednesday afternoon in Quebec.

Around 3:42 p.m., a call was made to 9-1-1 for ambulance assistance in the La Haute-Saint-Charles sector for a one-year-old child who was in cardiorespiratory arrest. The emergency services went to a residence on rue des Huards, located near Jacques-Bédard, in Lac-Saint-Charles.

The first officers on the scene attempted resuscitation while other officers attended to everyone inside the daycare.

Afterwards, the paramedics took over with the child. The police quickly contacted the parents before transporting them to the hospital. Streets were blocked in order to escort the ambulance more quickly to the hospital centre.

A person at the daycare received help for a nervous shock.

The death of the child was recorded at the hospital center, confirmed the SPVQ in the evening.

A coroner’s inquest will be required in this case. The daycare staff and the parents will be met.
