Labour wins large majority, early polls show

The Conservatives suffered their worst defeat since the beginning of the 20th century.

The result is clear. Labour won the general election on Thursday 4 July by a wide margin, according to initial estimates published by British television. Labour, positioned on the centre-left, seems to have won more than the 326 seats needed to have an absolute majority, according to BBC data. The Conservatives, in power for fourteen years, suffered their worst result since the beginning of the 20th century.

The Liberal Democrats (centrists) appear to be growing stronger, while theThe anti-immigration Reform UK party, led by Nigel Farage, is expected to make a much stronger entry into Parliament than expected. On the other hand,Scottish independence supporters suffer a serious setback.

Not very charismatic but determined, he has promised to transform the country as he has straightened out Labour, refocusing it on the economy: methodically, without any show or qualms. He says he wants to boost growth, fix public services, strengthen workers’ rights, reduce immigration and bring the United Kingdom closer to the European Union, without returning to Brexit, a taboo subject of the campaign.
