Route 117 in the La Vérendrye wildlife reserve, which connects southern Quebec to the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, is closed Monday evening following a serious accident involving a heavy truck and a car.

The person driving the car was taken to hospital in critical condition after colliding head-on with a truck in the late afternoon.
The accident took place around 5:40 p.m. on Route 117, at kilometer 416, in the heart of the La Vérendrye wildlife reserve. This one, with an area of more than 14,000 square kilometres, straddles Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Outaouais.
The truck driver was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
