The giant Michelin has developed a puncture-proof tire. This innovation will be installed on La Poste vehicles. What about this experiment with the journalist Axel de Tarlé, present on the set of 8 Hours, Thursday, June 29.
La Poste will equip its yellow cars with puncture-proof tires. On the 8 Hours set, journalist Axel de Tarlé explains that “until now the tires were filled with air“, but prone to punctures. So the Michelin company developed an airless tire. “The air is replaced by 64 very delicate fins […]flexible and resistant“, says the journalist. This flexibility allows the tire to hug the ground perfectly. For this innovation, Michelin has filed 50 patents.
Compete with China
Why are these tires used by La Poste? While on average we puncture every 75,000 km, La Poste punctures much more. That’s why the vehicles will be equipped on an experimental basis with these puncture-proof tires. Axel de Tarlé makes it known that this innervation will make it possible to compete “the Chinese who have already taken 23% market share in Europe“. Thus, Michelin relies on the top of the range to stand out.
