A 66-year-old man was transported in critical condition to a Montreal hospital late Wednesday night after being bothered by smoke during a fire at an apartment building in the center of the city.
The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) reports that the fire started shortly before 3:30 a.m. in the building located on avenue Christophe-Colomb, near the intersection of rue Bélanger Est, in the La Petite-Patrie sector.
The occupants of around ten apartments in the building were evacuated. After firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) were able to extinguish the fire, the occupants were able to re-enter the building at the end of the night while the security perimeter was lifted.
The investigation was transferred to the SPVM arson squad. No hypothesis as to the cause of the fire could be made at the end of the night.
