La Petite-Patrie | 66-year-old man dies in fire

(Montreal) The 66-year-old man who was transported in critical condition to a Montreal hospital due to a fire has succumbed to his injuries.



According to the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), the fire started shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday in an apartment building located on Christophe-Colomb Avenue, near the intersection of rue Bélanger Est, in the La Petite-Patrie sector.

After being bothered by smoke during the fire, the man was transported to a hospital. The SVPM confirmed his death later in the day.

Authorities have since confirmed that the fire was accidental in nature.

During the night, the occupants of around ten homes in the building were evacuated. After firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SSIM) were able to extinguish the fire, the occupants were able to re-enter the building at the end of the night while the security perimeter was lifted.
