La Liga president confirms complaints against PSG and Manchester City

She had announced it, she is taking action. The Spanish Football League filed “last week” a complaint about the terms of Erling Haaland’s transfer to Manchester City, and will file another “this week” aiming for the extension of Kylian Mbappé to Paris Saint-Germain, assured its president Javier Tebas on Monday.

“I’m not defending Real Madrid against Mbappé, I want to preserve European football”explained Tebas during a press event in Valladolid. “This week we are going to file a complaint against PSG, and last week we filed one against Manchester City.”said the La Liga boss.

The Spanish leader is one of the most vocal critics of state-backed clubs, namely Qatar for Paris SG and the United Arab Emirates for Manchester City. He accuses them of misusing the financial fair play established by UEFA and of unbalancing sporting and economic competition between the clubs.

Manchester City bought Haaland from Borussia Dortmund for 75 million euros, a sum corresponding to the Norwegian’s release clause. However, with the agent’s commissions and the player’s salary, the transfer could cost the Cityzens a lot more.

Mbappé’s new contract at PSG will see the French club shell out tens of millions of euros a year in the player’s salary alone, who has extended for a further three years with the Parisians.

“Allowing these operations is more dangerous than the Super League“said Tebas, referring to the stillborn project to launch a closed European League reserved for the big names in European football. “PSG will end up with losses of 200 million euros, they are already dragging 300 million and they will extend Mbappé with such results”he lamented.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin brushed off criticism of Tebas ahead of the final Champions League final in late May. “For me, it is not correct for one league to criticize another. From what I know, Real’s offer for Mbappé was similar to that of PSG”the Slovenian president of UEFA told AFP.
