Towards a left partially united with the senatorial? The Socialist Party announced on Wednesday July 5 that it had reached an agreement for the September election with Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV), which still has to validate it on Thursday. After a first step towards common lists concluded in mid-June between the PS and the French Communist Party (PCF), an alliance of the lefts is thus emerging without La France insoumise. The “rebellious” accused the three parties on Wednesday of“bury the Nupes for the senatoriales”.

The alliance promises to be “historical”rejoices the secretary general of the PS, Pierre Jouvet, after the socialists unanimously validated their agreement with EELV covering 14 departments, i.e. nearly a third of the departments concerned in September, after the agreement with the PCF covering 15 departments. “Reason prevailed, a certain idea of socialism and the union of the left, too”welcomes the first deputy secretary of the PS, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, very critical of Nupes, the left-wing coalition in the National Assembly.

Insubordinate France hoped for “a senator”

La France insoumise, dominant in the Assembly with 75 deputies out of the 150 of the Nupes, is heading towards a zero point in the Senate. “After having met several times without ever inviting the representatives of La France insoumise, the three components represented in the Senate have agreed to oust the insoumis”, denounces LFI. The movement launched by Jean-Luc Mélenchon criticizes “the inability of those who demand the ‘rebalancing’ of the Nupes to make it live and their submission to the anti-Nupes left”.

Relations between the “rebellious” and their partners had not been good for several weeks, even worsening during the riots in the suburbs. But the mélenchonistes pay above all, in these negotiations launched for several weeks, their deficiency in local elected officials and therefore in electors, who determine this election by indirect suffrage. “However, we were not greedy, we asked for a senator”released in front of journalists the deputy LFI Gabriel Amard.
