La Fontaine Tunnel: new restrictions for heavy goods vehicles

To alleviate congestion near the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, Quebec is implementing new lane management for heavy goods vehicles on Autoroute 25 southbound.

As of Friday, trucks will no longer be able to use the right lane of the A-25 southbound between exit 6 and the bridge-tunnel.

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility hopes to improve safety and traffic a little bit at the entrances and exits of the A-25 to the tunnel.

“This measure is expected to help limit congestion on the municipal network near the highway,” the MTMD said on Monday.

Since the start of the bridge-tunnel mega-construction site on October 31, congestion has been felt much more on the A-25 southbound where only 1 lane is kept open to traffic.

Due to Quebec’s decision, the La Fontaine tunnel will be completely closed overnight from Thursday 9 p.m. to Friday 5 a.m., it was added.
