For Félix Sosso, spokesperson for the Federation of General Student Associations, these government measures respond “to the emergency”. He hopes that these are not simple “announcement effects” in full mobilization against the pension reform.

“It’s a historic increase”, greets Wednesday, March 29 on franceinfo Félix Sosso, spokesperson for the Federation of General Student Associations (FAGE), after the announcement by the Minister of Higher Education and Research of a revaluation of aid for the 700,000 scholarship students. These measures, expected since the start of the year, will make it possible to“increase the amount of scholarships for all levels by 37 euros per month (i.e. 370 euros/year)”said Sylvie Retailleau during a press conference, welcoming “the strongest revaluation for 10 years, for all students”. These first measures of the stock market reform will be applied from September 2023. For Félix Sosso, this increase represents a “substantial sum” for the fight against student precariousness. “We haven’t had an increase like this since the creation of the scholarship system”welcomes the spokesperson for the Fage.

La Fage hopes that this “dynamic will continue”

However, Félix Sosso believes that these announcements meet “emergency”, he warns. According to him, it is “guarantees to continue the discussion” on a more comprehensive reform of stock exchanges. The Fage spokesperson wishes in particular “the end of threshold effects” And “a more universal vision of social assistance”. Faced with a scholarship system that he judges “defective”. Félix Sosso therefore calls on the government to question “what kind of scholarship system do we want” longer term. “We must not stop there, we are at the start of a reform of a scholarship system which could tend towards something fair and which guarantees equal opportunities in higher education”, he says. Félix Sosso pleads, for example, for a “universalization of social assistance, defamiliarization and consideration of the territorial context”.

The Fage spokesperson hopes, however, that these measures announced on Wednesday are not simple “announcement effects” in full mobilization against the pension reform. Whether “These announcements should have been taking place for a little while”the Fage spokesperson acknowledges that “the mobilization of young people has necessarily played and certainly made it possible to accelerate this process”. “We hope that this dynamic will continue and that these are not simply announcements made to calm tensions”he says.
