Kyrie Irving is traded to the Dallas Mavericks

Star point guard Kyrie Irving had his wish come true when the Brooklyn Nets traded him to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday.

In return for Irving’s services, the Mavericks sent Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and several draft picks to the Nets.

Irving’s arrival allows the Mavericks to add top talent to that of Luka Doncic, a contender for the Most Valuable Player award.

The trade comes just days after Irving asked the Nets to trade him. He wasn’t with the team for Saturday night’s game. Brooklyn’s squad said he was injured and that’s why he wasn’t at the arena.

This exchange also comes to end the tumultuous passage of Irving with the Nets.

Irving signed with his hometown team in 2019 with hopes of winning an NBA title playing alongside Kevin Durant.

But the controversial stories followed. Irving has missed most of the home schedule this season due to refusing to get a COVID-19 shot. Earlier this season, he was suspended for eight games because the team expressed dismay at his repeated failure to “say unequivocally that he has no anti-Semitic beliefs”, after posting a link to a film on his Twitter account.
