PSG won everything. The capital’s players, champions of Ligue 1 for men and in the D1 final for women, won a large part of the individual awards on Monday May 13 during the UNFP Trophies ceremony in Paris.

Kylian Mbappé was crowned best player in Ligue 1 before his departure from PSG. The one who played his last match at the Parc des Princes on Sunday with the Parisian jersey improves a record that he already held, winning for the fifth consecutive time this honorary trophy awarded by the players’ union (UNFP) since 1994 and whose winners are elected by their peers. Kylian Mbappé should also become the championship’s top scorer for the sixth consecutive year.

A ceremony with Parisian accents

Paris Saint-Germain scored a double blow, as its striker Tabitha Chawinga was named best player of the D1 season. With 18 goals and ten assists to her name, the Malawian dominates the individual statistics of the championship and took her team to the final, which will see PSG travel to the pitch of Olympique Lyonnais, Friday May 17 at Groupama Stadium. For her first season in France, Tabitha Chawinga, who arrived on loan in September in Paris, succeeds Lyonnaise Delphine Cascarino on the list.

But the capital club was not satisfied with the most prestigious awards. Placing seven players in the typical Ligue 1 team and four players in the typical D1 team, PSG also pocketed the trophy for best prospect in Ligue 1, awarded to Warren Zaire-Emery, and that of best goalkeeper who returned to Gianluigi Donnarumma. Another Parisian club stood out, since Paris FC won the prize for best goalkeeper in D1, received by Chiamaka Nnadozie, and that for best hope in D1, awarded to Louna Ribadeira.

Brest’s beautiful season rewarded

The conductor of PSG, Luis Enrique, is ultimately one of the only Parisian artisans not to have been decorated on Friday evening: it was the Stade Brestois coach Eric Roy who received the trophy from the hands of Didier Deschamps for best coach in Ligue 1, rewarding the very good season of his club, a surprise team in the championship. Arriving at the Finistère club in January 2023, for only his second experience and after eleven years without working, the technician first allowed the Breton club to remain in Ligue 1 last season, before qualifying it for the cup this season. of Europe, a first in the history of Brest.

Just reward for this extraordinary season for the Pirates, two Brest players appear in the typical team of the season: left back Bradley Locko and midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou. Among the other trophies awarded, Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid) was named best French player abroad and Gauthier Hein (Auxerre) was named best player in Ligue 2.
