However, it was an industrial site in Tatarstan, a Russian republic located more than 1,000 kilometers from Ukraine, which was targeted by a drone attack on Tuesday April 2.

“An aerial drone attack was carried out this morning against Tatarstan factories located in Yelabuga and Nizhnekamsk”, the press service of the leader of this republic in central Russia, Rustam Minnikhanov, reported on Telegram. The Ministry of Health of Tatarstan reported 13 people injured by the explosion caused by the drone who are “students, including two minors”. “Eight people were hospitalized for minor or moderate injuries, their lives are not threatened”he added on Telegram.

A drone assembly site targeted

The attack “did not cause serious damage, the technological process of enterprises was not disrupted”, assure the Tatarstan authorities, without specifying which factories were targeted. Questioned by AFP, a source within the Ukrainian defense sector affirmed that it “it was a GUR operation”Ukrainian military intelligence.

It was the Alabouga special economic zone (SEZ), located about ten kilometers from the city of Yelabouga, which was targeted, according to the SEZ press service. The sector has factories and companies specializing in the production of chemicals, mechanics and metal processing. According to the source within the Ukrainian defense sector interviewed by AFP, the strike targeted a drone assembly site.
