Ukraine buries its dead. The funeral of Denys Monastyrsky, the Minister of the Interior killed on Wednesday in the crash of his helicopter which was taking him to the front line, is scheduled for Saturday morning, January 21, in kyiv. New deliveries, but no German heavy tanks. Ukraine’s allies, meeting in Ramstein (Germany), announced substantial new arms deliveries to Ukraine, but failed to agree on the delivery of German heavy tanks, dampening kyiv’s hopes who urges them.

Zelensky continues to demand tanks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that there was no “no other option” than the Westerners sending heavy tanks to his country. He nevertheless welcomed a meeting in Ramstein on Friday which “will strengthen our resilience”.

The United States designates the Wagner Group as an international criminal organization. “Wagner is a criminal organization that commits vast atrocities and human rights abuses”White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters, noting that the mercenary group had something “50,000” people deployed in Ukraine, mainly prisoners sentenced in Russia.
