A gigantic construction site about twenty kilometers from kyiv. The Ukrainian government has undertaken major maneuvers to strengthen its positions. The Ukrainian forces fear that Putin’s army, reinvigorated by its recent successes, will attempt a breakthrough in the spring. “We prepare our defenses with mines, barbed wire, dragon teeth and concrete blocks”explains a soldier.
A new phase
The Ukrainian government has announced a budget of 500 million euros to dig and build defense lines over a length of more than 2,000 km as quickly as possible. For Ukraine, this new phase marks a radical change. Closer to the enemy’s positions, the soldiers inspect the trenches. The fear of trench warfare is very real. The new fortifications resemble those built by the Russians a year ago and on which the Ukrainian army’s counter-offensive failed,
