The images quickly went viral. Kurt Zouma appeared on Tuesday, May 24, before the Thames Magistrates court in east London, three months after the scandal caused by a video published on the internet by his brother Yoan. It showed the West Ham defender kicking and slapping his cat.

Before the judges, the Frenchman pleaded guilty to mistreating his cat, which has been taken away from him since the case. He was entrusted, along with the other feline he owns, to the RSPCA Humane Society. It is this same organization which had launched the procedure for Zouma to be prosecuted.

In the eye of the storm, the Frenchman had not been suspended by his club, but had been fined 300,000 euros and then lost his contract with the equipment manufacturer Adidas. Absent from the lists of Didier Deschamps in the France team since this affair, the defender has lost a lot of credit in the eyes of the coach.

Prosecuted for complicity, Yoan Zouma also appeared at Thames Magistrates court in east London on Tuesday morning and admitted having “aided, abetted, counseled or instigated his older brother to commit an offense“. The two men will know their sentence at a hearing on June 1.
