“The goal was not to shock.” On the set of CNews, the organizer of the events inspired by the television game “Koh Lanta” for the benefit of charities at the prison of Fresnes (Val-de-Marne) defended his initiative while admitting that it was a “controversial act”. The event, which took place on July 27, led to indignant reactions from the right, the far right and the announcement by Eric Dupond-Moretti of the opening of an investigation. “Everything was in the rules. We did not expect that” from the Ministry of Justice, explained Enzo Angelo Santo, assuring that the ministry had validated this event.

“The goal was to show, for a moment, a moment of humanity between inmates, guards and young people from the neighborhood.”

“We should not reduce our approach to karting”he insisted, specifying that “all detainees” who participated in the show were “people able to reintegrate” and “in school”. If people detained for short sentences “are reduced to eating, sleeping, eating, sleeping with possibly an hour of sport, they will be on the margins of society when they go out”he added.

“It was a fleeting morning with only a handful of inmates selected by the prison administration (…)concluded the producer, it created for them, for a moment, a social bond.” A dozen detainees took part in “Kohlanness” and only two took part in the karting event.
