Knife attacks in Saskatchewan: the second suspect would have been spotted

A notice sent by the Saskatchewan Emergency Alert System says investigators have been notified that Myles Sanderson may have been seen in the James Smith Cree community.

Myles Sanderson is one of two suspects in Sunday’s deadly stabbings in Saskatchewan. He was still eluding authorities on Tuesday morning.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on Tuesday asked residents of the area to immediately barricade themselves in a safe place. Myles Sanderson, 30, could be injured. But the man is considered dangerous and should not be approached by citizens, police warn.

The body of the other suspect in the attacks, 31-year-old Damien Sanderson, was discovered Monday in a grassy area in the James Smith Cree community, not far from one of the 13 crime scenes. According to the police, the two men are brothers.

Parole papers show that Myles Sanderson has a criminal record dating back nearly two decades and that he has a propensity for violence when intoxicated.

RCMP said 10 men and women were killed and 18 others injured in Sunday’s assaults — not including suspects — around the Cree community of James Smith and the nearby village of Weldon.

The federal police did not specify the motives for these attacks, but believe that some of the victims were targeted and others chosen at random.

Leaders of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations have issued an urgent appeal to locate Myles Sanderson, urging those who know his whereabouts to come forward to end this tragedy with no further casualties.
