Knife attacks in Saskatchewan | RCMP extends alert to Manitoba and Alberta

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Saskatchewan have extended an alert to neighboring provinces of Manitoba and Alberta to find two suspects at large, after several people were attacked with knives.

Posted at 4:29 p.m.

RCMP said the events took place in multiple locations, including James Smith Cree Nation territory and the village of Weldon. Early indications suggest the victims may have been attacked at random, law enforcement said, without specifying how many were injured.

Police say the wanted suspects may have been in Regina on Sunday morning.

Damien Sanderson is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 155 pounds, and Myles Sanderson is 6 feet 1 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. Both have black hair and brown eyes. They possibly drive a black Nissan Rogue with license plate 119 MPI.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority says many patients are being treated at multiple sites.

“A call for additional personnel has been launched to respond to the influx of wounded,” said the spokesperson for the authorities Anne Linemann in an email.

Mark Oddan, a spokesperson for the nonprofit STARS ambulance service, said two helicopters were dispatched from Saskatoon and another from Regina. Several patients were thus transported to the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

Mr. Oddan explained that due to privacy laws, he is unable to divulge information about their age, gender or condition.

He said other patients were transported by land ambulance to hospitals in Prince Albert, Nipawin and Melfort, but he does not know how many.
