The 44-year-old man who is suspected of killing his mother and a neighbor Thursday, during a bloody knife attack in a building in Vaudreuil-Dorion, was charged Friday with second-degree murder.
Fabio Puglisi will indeed face two counts of second-degree murder committed against Elisabetta Caucci-Puglisi, 68, and Manon Blanchard, 53. According to our information, the first was the mother of the accused and lived with him. The second was a neighbor. Second-degree murder means it was not premeditated or planned for a long period of time.
Another count of attempted murder also weighs against the forty-year-old, since a third woman was transported to a hospital center, where her condition is still considered critical.
The last charge is one of aggravated assault against this same third victim. She was allegedly injured, mutilated and disfigured, according to court documents in her file made public this Friday.
Earlier, on Thursday, Mr. Puglisi was arrested after being found bloodied in a large rental condo building on rue Émile-Bouchard, where the police intervened at the end of the morning “for an armed attack against several victims”. It was there that they found three injured women, two of whom died on the spot, confirmed the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
A criminal past
According to the docket, Puglisi appeared less than a week ago to face a charge of assault against another woman. He went to court on February 9 to respond to this accusation, the facts of which date back to November 2023.
Known to the police, the suspect had also been found not criminally responsible in the past for charges of assault causing bodily harm and fraud.
In 2020, the Mental Disorders Review Commission was mandated to evaluate the mental state of Mr. Puglisi, accused of having sold an imitation of a Riopelle painting on the Kijiji site. “The accused, due to his mental state, no longer represents a significant risk to public safety,” the organization concluded at that time.
Mr. Puglisi, who had been hospitalized for a month “following an attack on a motorist on the highway in a paranoid delusional experience” in 2011, presented “notable” progress, in particular because he was “ good company “. “He takes the medication as prescribed. Moreover, he realizes that he is much better by taking his medication,” we read in the decision.
