“Kitchissime”, Estelle Denis not tender with the Olympic flame ceremony hosted by Nikos Aliagas

D-100 before the start of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The event of the day was the Olympic flame ceremony which took place in Olympia, Greece, hosted by Nikos Aliagas and in front of hundreds of guests.

A traditional ceremony on the ancient site of Olympia, land of the first Olympic Games in Antiquity. Due to weather conditions and cloudy skies, the lighting of the flame could not be done under the sun as ancient tradition dictates. It was made with a reserve flame kept during the dress rehearsal as explained by France Info.

A moment of history and traditions

On this historic site, in front of the 2,600-year-old ruins of the Temple of Herathe “high priestess”, played by the Greek actress Mary Mina, who was dressed in a costume inspired by Antiquity, lit the flame in the presence of Tony Estanguetpresident of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as well as president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach.

Mary Mina then passed the torch to first torchbearer: Stefanos NtouskosOlympic rowing champion at the Tokyo Olympics. Next, it’s the former French swimmer
Laura Manaudou
who succeeded him. The latter being the first French torchbearer passed the baton herself, as tradition dictates. Quite a symbol for the champion, 20 years after her coronation at the Athens Olympics in 2004.

The flame now sets off on a journey of 5,000 km across Greece for eleven days. It will be transmitted to the French organizers on April 26 in the Athens stadium and will arrive in France, at the Old Port of Marseille, on May 8.

A kitsch ceremony for Estelle Denis

The journalist and presenter
Estelle Denis followed this ceremony and apparently didn’t really appreciate it. Indeed, Raymond Domenech’s ex-partner gave her opinion on his X account. “Is it just me or is this flame ceremony really kitsch??wrote the one who officiates on RMC in Estelle Midi.

Below the post, there are numerous comments. Some Internet users agree with Estelle Denis: “no, no it’s not you“, “very kitsch“, “I like their dresses. And that’s all.” we can read. But others are of the opposite opinion: “ancestral ceremony filled with Hellenic symbols and traditions. Indeed David Guetta it would have been meh“, “I think it’s you. Every 4 years the ceremony is the same: traditional!“, “It’s a historical tradition, I love it…
