Slow housing sales, construction in free fall… When the real estate sector trembles, the crisis even invades the kitchens. Their sales are at half mast, with a drop of 6.9% last year. Some kitchen designers have even gone bankrupt. Geoffrey had called on a professional for his kitchen, but the company was placed in liquidation. The order of 9,000 euros was not honored. Fortunately, his case was finally taken care of.
Adapt to demand
The sector is slipping while sales boomed during the pandemic, with an increase of almost 20%. “The decline in the kitchen market is linked to the overconsumption of cooking after the COVID period, we don’t buy cuisine like pain au chocolat”, underlines Christophe Gazel, director general of IPEA. To get by, some kitchen designers adapt to demand and design dressing rooms or living room furniture.
