After taking second place in the curtain raiser of the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Deer Valley on Thursday, behind Australian Matt Graham, Quebecer Mikaël Kingsbury avenged his defeat in the dual moguls super-final on Saturday.
And Kingsbury, nicknamed “the king bumps” delivered flawless performance throughout the day en route to a 78e career World Cup victory.
” I feel good ! I wanted to take one round at a time,” said Kingsbury, who is from Deux-Montagnes. I suffered a minor wrist injury on Thursday from a crash in training, but the doctors did an amazing job to make sure I was ready for today. »
“It’s fantastic to win here in Deer Valley in front of my girlfriend and such a big crowd,” he added.
The win means Kingsbury are now top of the World Cup dual moguls standings, ahead of Sweden’s Walter Wallberg. The 30-year-old hard worker also defeated him in the semi-finals on Saturday. Wallberg finished in third place.
“I knew I had to win gold to get to the top of the standings. By finishing second today, I couldn’t have taken the leader’s bib. It gave me a little boost more to go for the win,” noted Kingsbury.
Thursday, by virtue of his second place, Kingsbury had won the 22e crystal globe of his career in the individual event.
” It is enormous. Two of my main opponents couldn’t get good results on Thursday, which allowed me to get the Crystal Globe very quickly. It’s always nice to be able to add another globe to my collection,” he summed up.
On the women’s side, Canadian Maia Schwinghammer lost in the quarter-finals to American Jaelin Kauf, who eventually took silver.
The French Perrine Laffont triumphed, while the bronze was awarded to the American Hannah Soar.
