King Mohammed VI of Morocco has “enormously lost weight”, his meeting with the Spanish president worries

It was an important political moment that took place this Thursday, April 7, in Rabat. Accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, Pedro Sánchez was received in audience by King Mohammed VI. Long-awaited reunion, after months of tension between the two countries. A meeting that certainly marks a diplomatic rapprochement between Spain and Morocco. However, during this meeting, the appearance of King Mohammed VI has caused much ink to flow. More and more emaciated, many specialists wonder if the sovereign is not again sick.

In 2018, the sovereign had already had some health problems. In just two years, Mohammed VI had undergone two operations, revealed a press release issued by the king’s doctors and relayed by the state press agency. We then learned of the illness from which he was afflicted. Mohammed VI suffered from a “atrial flutter on healthy heart”which led to a “heart rhythm disorder”. A first operation which was a “total success”. Then, the sovereign once again passed into the hands of health professionals, in the clinic of the royal palace, in Rabat. Is the 23rd heir of the Alaouite dynasty completely cured? One thing is certain, he must monitor his cardiac arrhythmia very closely to avoid catching chronic bronchitis.

An important meeting

Despite his feverish appearance, Mohammed VI would not have missed his meeting with Pedro Sánchez for the world. In a Joint Declaration by both parties, the King and the President of the Spanish Government recognized “the importance of the Sahara issue for Morocco as well as Morocco’s serious and credible efforts within the framework of the United Nations to find a mutually acceptable solution”, can we read by way of an official press release. As a result, spain “considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative, presented in 2007, as the most serious, realistic and credible basis for the resolution of this dispute”is it specified in the Joint Statement.
