King Charles III’s cancer was detected “early”, says British Prime Minister

This is what Rishi Sunak told the BBC on Tuesday, the day after the announcement of the monarch’s illness.

Did they talk about it during their weekly interview? British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in any case wanted to be reassuring about the cancer from which King Charles III is suffering. The disease was “detected early” he assured the BBC on Tuesday February 6, the day after the announcement which shocked the country. “Everyone wishes him to receive the treatment he needs and to make a full recovery. (…) I am of course in regular contact with (the king) and I will continue to communicate with him as usual”added Rishi Sunak.

After only seventeen months on the throne, the 75-year-old monarch will be absent from public life for an indefinite period. There “form of cancer” which Charles III is affected by has not been specified. He began treatment on Monday in London, and spent the night at home, according to British media.

The sovereign himself assured that he was “very optimistic” regarding his treatment, and that he would continue to ensure “state affairs and administrative tasks”, linked to his role as head of state of 15 countries including the United Kingdom. It is up to Queen Camilla, 76, and William, 41, to publicly represent the monarchy.
