His cancer had kept him away from the field and his subjects for three months. King Charles III resumed his public activities on Tuesday April 30 with a symbolic visit: he chose to go to a cancer center located in London. Accompanied by his wife Camilla, the king arrived late in the morning, all smiles, by car, at the Macmillan center at University College Hospital. He shook hands before entering the building to meet doctors and patients, to raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis.
Doctors say “sufficiently satisfied” to allow this gradual return, adapted to his state of health. The 75-year-old king is not cured yet: his treatment continues, and his commitments will be “carefully calibrated” in “close consultation with his doctors”specified Buckingham Palace by announcing on Friday the resumption of a “certain number” of commitments.
The King and Queen are due to receive in June, on an unspecified date, Emperor Naruhito of Japan and his wife Empress Masako, for a state visit at the invitation of the British government. Other possible commitments (Royal Ascot, 80th anniversary of D-Day, Trooping the Color in June, traditional garden parties) will be subject to the advice of his doctors, closer to their deadline.
