The situation on the military front
Russian strike against a base near the Polish border
This Sunday, Russian forces bombed a military base located in the Lviv region (in western Ukraine), near the Polish border and so far relatively spared from the conflict, local authorities said. “The occupiers carried out an airstrike on the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security. According to preliminary information, they fired eight missiles“, said the Lviv regional administration in a statement.
The Yavoriv base is also used to transport part of the military aid delivered to Ukraine by Western countries. This base is located about forty kilometers northwest of Lviv, a large city in western Ukraine where many displaced people have flocked. Several countries have also moved their embassies there, deeming this city safer than Kiev.
Mariupol hopes for the arrival of a humanitarian aid convoy
Russian forces continue to shell the south of the country where the besieged city of Mariupol is hoping for the arrival of a humanitarian aid convoy. This convoy was stuck at a Russian roadblock for more than five hours on Saturday, and the hope was that it can reach Mariupol this Sunday.
I’issue is crucial for Mariupola strategic port city, located in the south-east of the country between the Crimea and the Donbass, immersed in a situation “almost desperate” according to Doctors Without Borders (MSF), lacking food and deprived of water, gas, electricity and communications.
